Bridge project

Lately I have been working in a group with Callan on a bridge project. Our question was which bridge design could hold the most weight. The bridges we chose were the beam bridge, warren truss bridge and the deck truss bridge. Our hypothesis is that the deck truss bridge will be able to hold the most weight and that the beam bridge will be able to hold the least weight. At the moment we are up to the eperiment stage of our project.

Cricket Explanation

Cricket is a bat and ball sport which is played worldwide in many different countries. Cricket is a team sport played by 11 players on a 22 yard pitch ( normally grass or astroturf) Cricket is one of the world's most popular sports and is played by 104 countries 12 of which are full members.

In a cricket match there is a that is batting and a team that is bowling. This is decided by a coin toss between the two captains at the start of the match and the winner of this gets to choose whether they want to bat or bowl. On a cricket pitch there are 3 wooden stumps with two bails on top. In a test match which is the traditional format of the game each team get two innings( each phase of play) to bat. The fielding teams objective is to bowl the batting team all out for the least amount of runs possible. There is ten ways a batsman can get out. 5 ways are very common and 5 ways are very rare. Bowled, caught, stumped, run out, timed out, obstructing the fielder, timed out, hit wicket, leg before wicket ( lbw) and handled ball. When the fielding team gets the batting team all out then they go into bat. This happens twice and whoever gets the most runs wins the match.

Cricket is a very old game and started sometime in the 1500s. The first ever official cricket match was held in 1844 between the USA and Canada which was played at ST George’s Cricket Club in New York and then the first ever Test match was played on the 15th of March 1877 when Australia beat England by 45 run in Melbourne. A long time after this was when New Zealand started to get into cricket and played their first test match in 1930 against england. This in when a lot of other countries came into the mix playing cricket.

Cricket has evolved a heap since the 1500s. There are bigger bats, lots more runs scored and lots more countries that play cricket. Recently Afghanistan and Ireland have been approved as Full Members by the ICC, meaning they have become cricket's 11th and 12th Test-playing nations. Apart from test cricket there are 2 other recently invented formats of the game. These formats of the game are made to be a shorter more exciting for the fans. The two formats of the game are a one day match where both teams get 50 overs each to bat and there is a T20 match where both teams get 20 overs to bat each. There is also a very new type of test match called a day/night test and is played with a pink ball.

There is so much history in cricket and the game has changed so much. There is a lot of new countries that are getting introduced to the game and it will continue to grow for a long time.
